Barry: President Trump got into big trouble in New York for paying hush money, yet Congress has been doing the same for over a decade. Congressman Tom Massie exposed that U.S. taxpayers have paid out $17 million over the last ten years to settle sexual harassment and other discrimination claims. These secret payouts have gone to settle cases involving harassment, racial, religious, and disability-related discrimination by members of Congress. The names and details are kept hidden—a glaring double standard, considering Trump faced criminal charges for his private settlement. Congress, however, has potentially hundreds of these hush money cases swept under the rug. After Massie’s comments, you could’ve heard a pin drop in the room. It’s as though nobody wants to touch this topic.
Will: Yeah, it’s unbelievable—$17 million! If we assume some of these payouts are around $50,000 each, that’s still a huge number of cases, and many could be $100,000 or even $250,000. The fact that our taxpayer dollars are funding what seems like a Capitol Hill pity party is beyond disgraceful. This “Congressional Accountability Act” is just a cover for hiding these incidents. This slush fund protects reputations in total secrecy, and we, the public, don’t even know who’s involved or why. Congress needs to be held accountable—just like anyone else. The people deserve to see the list of who’s been part of these cover-ups.
