Well, Denmark has given us the answer.
Denmark is one of the few countries in Europe that tracks detailed crime statistics by country of origin and immigration background. And when you look at the data, you begin to understand why so many politicians do not want this conversation happening at all.
The chart shows certain immigrant background groups significantly overrepresented in serious crimes compared to native Danes.
And in the rape category, Palestinians in Denmark are shown to cause roughly 12 times the rape rate of Danish-origin people!
Now listen carefully.
That does not mean every Palestinian is guilty of rape.
It does not mean every immigrant is dangerous.
Individual guilt is individual.
But public policy cannot be based on pretending patterns do not exist.
This is the problem with Europe.
One side wants to hide the data because they are terrified of being called racist.
The other side wants to use the data to condemn entire populations.
Both sides are wrong.
Because if the public is not allowed to discuss official crime data, then democracy is already damaged by fear.
Denmark is not perfect, but Denmark is showing Europe something important:
You cannot solve a problem you are not allowed to measure.
